Renovation
In 2023 and 2024, we lead the structural restoration and roof renovation of a historic pump house on the banks of the River Severn in Ironbridge, a picturesque town known for its rich industrial heritage. As principal contractor, the project balanced the preservation of the building’s historic character, ensuring ecological sensitivity, with critical structural updates to ensure its longevity.
The first phase, completed in 2023, involved a detailed assessment of the pump house’s condition. The basement was drained to evaluate the concrete’s integrity and locate water ingress, while steel, masonry, and roof inspections identified the scope of required repairs.
In 2024, the second phase of restoration began. The roof was renovated with new coverings, insulation, and 15-meter skylights to flood the interior with natural light. The façade was cleaned and masonry repairs restored its historical charm. We also restored the historic hopper and downpipes and installed new below-ground external stormwater drainage.
Additional updates included roller shutter doors, and external doors, alongside the careful restoration of the original windows; honouring the pump house’s heritage while ensuring it meets modern standards.
This historic site renovation showcases our expertise in sensitive structural restoration and building renewal of heritage sites, as we understand the importance of ensuring they remain valuable parts of the community’s history.
